The Novel Christine by Stephen King Free Essay Example, 1500 words

Within the modern era, this has mostly been directed towards the degree and extent to which women s sex appeal can blind man and caused them to behave in a manner that they might not otherwise behave. In terms of past understanding, this beguiling influence relates to many mystical and religious undertones that would require a dissertation-length response to fully capture and engage. Nevertheless, it is without question that had the car been represented as a male throughout the entire novel, it would not have had the ability to capture the attention of Arnie and influence him in the way that it did. Moreover, Stephen King utilized the beguiling and sex appeal that the car inherently represented as a means of reflecting the way in which the supernatural force that possesses the car was able to manipulate and otherwise befuddle a young man that was enraptured and enthralled with the unique level of beauty and exotic nature that the car portrayed. Time and time again throughout the nov el, the means by which the car was able to influence Arnie was represented. All Quiet On The Western Front Animalism Analysis

Everyone who fights in the war has to have animal instincts and basically shut off their emotions. Many moments of being animalistic are shown in All Quiet On the Western Front. One big moment in the book where Paul had to act animalistically is when he killed Gerard Duvall, Paul even says â€Å"I do not think at all, I make no decision-I strike madly at home, and feel only how the body suddenly convulses then becomes limp, and collapses† (Remarque 216). Paul did not even have to think about killing a man at this point, it was his instinct to immediately attack him. That is something that is animalistic and not totally humane. Also, when they make an attack earlier on, Paul says â€Å"No longer do we lie helpless, waiting on the scaffold, we can†¦show more content†¦Kropp does not really feel he has many reasons to keep living, so he decided that if he will have to suffer from the war even more, by losing an entire limb, he doesnt really need to live. The war has rea lly messed with him, because he is ready to kill himself if he feel he needs to. But not everyone who had been affected by the war ends up like how Kropp is. Detering went through something totally different compared to what Kropp went through. On page 275 Detering saw a cherry tree, which reminded him of his home and farm, and he started to want to leave, and on page 276, Paul noticed he was being a little strange and in the book it said â€Å"In order to turn him away from his thoughts, I asked for a piece of bread. He gave it to me without a murmur. That was suspicious, for he is usually tight fisted† (Remarque 276). Detering had been reminded of his home, and he started to miss it. That began to change him, and soon after Paul got suspicious of what he was doing, Detering left. He was captured soon after he fled from the war, and we can only assume he was killed. Remarque wrote the book for a reason, and even explained part of the reason why he wrote the book in a paragraph before chapter one. In the end of that paragraph, he wrote, â€Å"It will try simply to tell of a generation of men who †¦ were destroyed by the war† (Remarque). Remarque wrote the book in order to share how the war had changed the soldiers. This idea is clearer

Mass Marketing and Direct Marketing Free Essays

Mass marketing is the traditional method of selling while direct marketing is a new innovation in marketing and advertising. The former, which is usually employed by large companies, is the more costly method since it targets a broad market while the latter, which is favored by small and medium scale organizations, is relatively cheaper as it is aimed at a specific target market. Mass marketers sell their products with the use of the mass media such as national television, newspapers, radio, and widely circulated journals and magazines. We will write a custom essay sample on Mass Marketing and Direct Marketing or any similar topic only for you Order Now Its use of the mass media makes it a relatively expensive way of marketing because of the cost entailed in attempting to reach a wide audience through a single television spot or issue of a newspaper or magazine. However, advertisers and sellers consider the method somewhat indispensable because the products that they are selling are either attractive to or are believed to be essential to people from all walks of life who are watching television, reading newspapers or magazines, and listening to radio programs. Some of the products which are mass marketed are different brands of bath soap, detergent bars, toothpaste, and face powder. In the 1960s, before the advent of direct marketing, only big advertisers could usually afford to market products using the mass media due to the prohibitive costs involved. For instance, during the 1980s, a national television network charged an â€Å"average cost per thousand viewers† of $16.79 for every spot which lasted for thirty seconds. In other words, if the network reached ten million households, a 30-second spot would cost the advertiser $167,900 (Bianco, Lowry, Berner, Arndt Grover. 2004). Compared to mass marketing, direct marketing is relatively new. This concept, which involves reaching individual customers through telephone calls, electronic mails, or the postal service, caught fire during the twenty-first century. A survey conducted only in 2006 which covered some 500 direct marketers and service providers worldwide and released January 11, 2007, found out that â€Å"85% of respondents expect their online direct marketing expenditures to increase in 2007† (Direct Marketing News). This system of marketing heavily relies on a customer list created, maintained, and regularly updated for the purpose. Organizations who employ this method claim that their marketing efforts are measurable in terms of responses or feedbacks which they receive from their target customers (Business Link). Evidently, mass marketing, although more expensive compared to direct marketing, could not be dispensed with by marketers who want to sell their products in large quantities to a multitude of consumers. This is because a company who targets millions of people just could not afford to contact them directly and individually.
